Today, stress, pressure and dietary deficiencies contribute to children and adolescents experiencing attention problems or antisocial behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Poor nutrition in early childhood is associated with increased aggressive behaviour and behaviour problems<sup data-fn=\"a46f7078-a8bd-42c5-ab82-ebe716836e28\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#a46f7078-a8bd-42c5-ab82-ebe716836e28\" id=\"a46f7078-a8bd-42c5-ab82-ebe716836e28-link\">1<\/a><\/sup>. It is hypothesised that poor nutrition has a negative impact on brain structure and function, which in turn predisposes children to the risk factors for antisocial behaviour<sup data-fn=\"3bd27271-ec77-44c9-b75f-e4f2df867d28\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#3bd27271-ec77-44c9-b75f-e4f2df867d28\" id=\"3bd27271-ec77-44c9-b75f-e4f2df867d28-link\">2<\/a><\/sup>. This implies that improving nutrition may help improve child behavioural problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-vertical is-layout-flex wp-container-core-group-is-layout-8cf370e7 wp-block-group-is-layout-flex\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Studies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Omega-3 (EPA and DHA) is an essential part of our brain and is well known for its contribution to the development and maintenance of normal brain function<sup data-fn=\"62d36a66-d0ee-4cfe-b5e6-a5c3a5713958\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#62d36a66-d0ee-4cfe-b5e6-a5c3a5713958\" id=\"62d36a66-d0ee-4cfe-b5e6-a5c3a5713958-link\">3<\/a><\/sup>[4]. The evidence for EPA and DHA\u2019s role in brain health is extensive and growing, and several studies have shown that omega-3 supplementation results in a reduction in antisocial behaviour<sup data-fn=\"2912b850-a1ac-4ebb-b3af-b1cbaf397c57\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#2912b850-a1ac-4ebb-b3af-b1cbaf397c57\" id=\"2912b850-a1ac-4ebb-b3af-b1cbaf397c57-link\">4<\/a><\/sup>, aggression<sup data-fn=\"ac8baf91-5bad-4d41-bf18-59be818c9a24\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#ac8baf91-5bad-4d41-bf18-59be818c9a24\" id=\"ac8baf91-5bad-4d41-bf18-59be818c9a24-link\">5<\/a><\/sup> and even homicide<sup data-fn=\"05740a25-38bc-4998-8f1c-aac7405d6a3c\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#05740a25-38bc-4998-8f1c-aac7405d6a3c\" id=\"05740a25-38bc-4998-8f1c-aac7405d6a3c-link\">6<\/a><\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, not many trials have been conducted in children and adolescents. Smartfish has completed three trials in this field, two of which have been published so far. One involved 184 children from the 8\u201316 age group, randomised to either PowerUp or a placebo-control (juice only)<sup data-fn=\"eae50201-5b2a-4d77-8234-f5f34d746b65\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#eae50201-5b2a-4d77-8234-f5f34d746b65\" id=\"eae50201-5b2a-4d77-8234-f5f34d746b65-link\">7<\/a><\/sup>. Significant group interactions were observed within the treatment group showing long-term improvements in child behavioural problems. The other one involved 290 children aged 11\u201312 years, randomised to either PowerUp only, Cognitive Behavioural Treatment (CBT) only, PowerUp + CBT or control<sup data-fn=\"09a70082-df8b-428a-ac60-5d689db911cd\" class=\"fn\"><a href=\"#09a70082-df8b-428a-ac60-5d689db911cd\" id=\"09a70082-df8b-428a-ac60-5d689db911cd-link\">8<\/a><\/sup>. Children in the PowerUp only group showed reduced externalising behaviour compared to the control group at three months.
